Justin Bieber

The Canadian musician Justin Drew Bieber was born on March 1, 1994. He is known for his performances that span all genres and is often considered a pop star. American music businessman Scooter Braun found Bieber in 2008 and introduced him to American musician Usher; in October of the same year, they created the record company RBMG Records to sign Bieber. His first extended play (EP), 2009's My World, catapulted him to fame after its rapid financial success on a global scale and solidified his status as a teen idol.

My World 2.0 (2010), Bieber's adolescent pop-driven debut studio album, catapulted him into the spotlight as it became the youngest solo male artist to debut atop the US Billboard 200 in 47 years. One of the most successful songs of all time, "Baby" (with Ludacris) served as the album's lead single. His 2011 sophomore album, Under the Mistletoe, was the first Christmas album by a male singer to launch at number one and went on to have sustained popularity. Believe, Justin Bieber's third studio album, was an attempt in dance-pop; the album's acoustic re-release established him as the youngest artist in Billboard history to have five US number-one albums before the age of eighteen. In the two years that followed, Bieber's reputation took a beating due to his involvement in a slew of scandals and legal troubles.

The 2015 Grammy-winning single "Where Are Ü Now" (co-written by Bieber and Jack Ü) delves into electronic dance music (EDM). "Love Yourself," "Sorry," and "What Do You Mean?"—three songs from his 2015 album Purpose—topped the Billboard Hot 100. The album was inspired by the genre. He became the first artist in UK chart history to ever have three singles peak at the same time. Bieber became the first artist in history to have two songs featuring his guest appearances peak on the Billboard Hot 100 in consecutive weeks in 2017—"I'm the One" by DJ Khaled and "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi. His Latin Grammy Award was likewise bestowed to him by the latter. The 2019 Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance went to his song "10,000 Hours" with Dan + Shay. Changes(2020), his fifth studio album influenced by R&B, had a number one launch in the United Kingdom and the United States, while his solo duet with Ariana Grande, "Stuck with U," also had a top debut on the Billboard Hot 100. With the help of the global smash song "Peaches" as its lead single, his sixth studio album Justice (2021) soared to the top of the Billboard 200, surpassing Elvis Presley's 1965 record as the youngest solo artist to have eight US number-one albums. "Stay" (co-written with Kid Laroi) became his seventh US top 40 hit that year.

With an estimated 150 million albums sold globally, Bieber is among the best-selling musicians of all time. Four diamond distinctions from the RIAA attest to his excellence in the music industry. 2 Grammys, 1 Latin Grammy, 8 Junos, 2 Brits, 26 Billboards, 18 ACMs, 22 MTV Europe Music Awards (more than any artist), 23 Teen Choice Awards (more than any male), and 33 Guinness World Records are among Bieber's numerous accolades. In 2011, Bieber was one of Time's 100 most influential people in the world. In 2011, 2012, and 2013, he was also included among Forbes' top ten most powerful celebrities. According to Billboard, he was ranked as the eighth-best pop star of the 21st century in 2024.

**Early years**

Raised in Stratford, Ontario, Justin Drew Bieber came into this world on March 1, 1994, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario. Jeremy Jack Bieber and Pattie Mallette, who were both 18 years old when Bieber was born, quickly divorced. As a single mother living in low-income housing, Pattie raised Bieber while working a string of low-paying office jobs. Bieber was raised by Mallette with the support of her mother Diane and stepfather Bruce. Justin Bieber is still in touch with his dad. Ancestry from France, Canada, Ireland, England, Scotland, and Germany are all part of Bieber's family tree. The Canadian Congress of Aboriginal Peoples criticized Bieber in 2012 for spreading the falsehood that Indigenous people in Canada receive free gas after he said, "I'm actually part Indian. I think Inuit or something? I'm enough percent that in Canada I can get free gas." That statement sparked a common misconception.

Jeremy Bieber is the father of four Bieber children, three of whom are younger half-siblings. Two children, Jazmyn and Jaxon, were born to Jeremy Bieber and Erin Wagner, his ex-girlfriend from their seven-year relationship that ended in 2014. Bay is the daughter of Jeremy and his fiancée Chelsey, who they wed in February 2018. Additionally, Bieber's stepmother had a daughter called Allie, who is Bieber's stepsister.

Bieber went at Bedford Public School and Jeanne Sauvé Catholic School, both of which were Stratford primary schools that offered French immersion programs. He went to Stratford Northwestern for seventh and eighth grade. In many interviews, Bieber's former instructor Kim Booker gushed about her time teaching him. He earned his high school diploma in 2012 from St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Stratford, where he maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA.

While he was a kid, he picked up songs on the trumpet, guitar, drums, and piano. Bieber sang "So Sick" by Ne-Yo at a Stratford, Connecticut, singing contest in early 2007 when he was twelve years old, and he came in second. Mallette allowed their loved ones to see the performance via a YouTube video they uploaded. As she kept posting videos of Bieber covering R&B songs, his popularity on the site skyrocketed. During the same year, as the Avon Theatre was bustling with tourists, Bieber played a series of busking concerts with a borrowed guitar.

Work History

2007–2009: The Beginning of My Career and My World

An ex-marketing executive of So So Def Recordings named Scooter Braun accidentally stumbled into one of Justin Bieber's 2007 YouTube videos—a version of Ne-Yo's "So Sick"—while looking for footage of another artist. After being impressed, Braun called Bieber's mother Mallette, who was hesitant at first due to Braun's Judaism, and learned more about Bieber's school and the theater where he was playing. There were times when she prayed, "God, I gave him to you. You could send me a Christian man, a Christian label!" and "God, you don't want this Jewish kid to be Justin's man, do you?" But she eventually caved in to the pressure from church leaders and allowed Bieber leave with Braun. Bieber accompanied Braun to Atlanta, Georgia, to record demo recordings when he was thirteen years old. A week after that, Bieber started singing for Usher. Quickly after, Bieber inked a deal with Usher and Raymond Braun's joint venture, Raymond Braun Media Group (RBMG). Usher beat out Justin Timberlake in the bidding war to sign Bieber, in part because the public would be confused by two artists with the same name, who are related.

Then, Usher went to his former manager Chris Hicks for aid in locating a record company for the singer. Hicks orchestrated an audition with his contact L.A. Music Group member Reid of Island Def Jam. After RBMG and Island Records formed a joint venture in October 2008, Reid signed Justin Bieber to Island Records and put Hicks in charge of Bieber's career at Def Jam as executive vice president. After that, Bieber and his mom relocated to Atlanta so he could continue working with Braun and Usher. In 2008, Braun took over as Bieber's manager.

As Justin Bieber was in the midst of producing his debut album, the song "One Time" was broadcast to the radio. In its initial week of release in July 2009, the song peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US, while it reached number 12 on the Canadian Hot 100. It was successful in foreign markets in the fall of 2009. Both the United States and Canada awarded the song platinum certification, while Australia and New Zealand gave it gold. My World, an extended play, was his debut album, and it was out on November 17, 2009. Released only through the iTunes Store, "One Less Lonely Girl"—the album's second single—and "Love Me" and "Favorite Girl," two promotional singles—all peaked at number forty on the US Billboard Hot 100. This allowed him to make history as the first solo artist to have four Hot 100 songs that reached the top 40 prior to releasing a first album.

Afterwards, "One Less Lonely Girl" was also made available on the radio; it reached a peak of twenty in both Canada and the United States, where it was certified gold. After My World came out, Bieber made history as the first artist whose first album had seven singles that charted on the Billboard Hot 100. In the end, the US certified My World as platinum, while Canada and the UK awarded it double platinum. Bieber made appearances on various live shows to promote the album, including mtvU's VMA 09 Tour, The Dome, a European program, YTV's The Next Star, Lopez Tonight, The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Wendy Williams Show, Good Morning America with Alexa Chung, Good Morning America, Chelsea Lately, and BET's 106 & Park. Late in 2009, Bieber was also a guest star on True Jackson, VP.

In a performance that aired on TNT in the United States on December 20, 2009, Bieber sang "Someday at Christmas" by Ron Miller and Bryan Wells for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at Christmas in Washington, which took place at the White House. On December 31st, 2009, Bieber performed on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

2010–2011: Under the Mistletoe, Never Say Never, and My World 2.0

On January 31, 2010, Bieber hosted the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, he was asked to provide his vocals to a new version of the charity song "We Are the World" that would be released to aid Haiti in the wake of the devastating earthquake. The original version included Lionel Richie singing the opening phrase, but Bieber sings it instead.

A group of Canadian artists called Young Artists for Haiti made a cover of "Wavin' Flag" by K'naan and published it on March 12, 2010. Justin Bieber sings the final verse of the song.

From his first album, My World 2.0, the single "Baby" was released in January of 2010. The song, which featured Ludacris, became a smashing success all over the world. Several foreign markets had it in the top ten, and it peaked at #3 on the Canadian Hot 100 and #5 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Promo songs "U Smile" and "Never Let You Go" peaked at number 20 in Canada and number 30 in the United States. Metacritic, an online database of reviews, states that the album has been well-received. After its debut at #1 on the US Billboard 200, Bieber became the youngest male solo performer to do so since Stevie Wonder in 1963. In addition to debuting at number one in Canada, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, My World 2.0 also hit the top ten in fifteen additional nations' album charts.

Among Bieber's live appearances to promote the album were those on The View, Nightline, the 2010 Kids' Choice Awards, The Dome, Late Show with David Letterman, and 106 & Park. Featuring Sean Kingston, "Eenie Meenie" was the album's second single. The song peaked at number 10 in both Australia and the UK and was in the top twenty in the majority of other markets. Bieber performed as a special guest on Saturday Night Live on April 10, 2010. Bieber made an appearance at New York City's Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular on July 4, 2010. "Somebody to Love" was the second song to be released from My World 2.0 in April 2010. It was remixed and included Bieber's mentor Usher. Starting in Hartford, Connecticut on June 23, 2010, Bieber embarked on his first official headlining tour, the My World Tour, to promote My World and My World 2.0. The May 2010 single "Rich Girl" by rapper Soulja Boy included Bieber. Reports indicated that Bieber surpassed all other celebrities in terms of Internet searches in July 2010. In the same month, his "Baby" music video had more views than Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" (2009), which had the opposite problem: it was the most hated video on YouTube. According to a Twitter employee in September 2010, Bieber was responsible for three percent of all Twitter traffic.

As a result of entering puberty, Bieber's voice was said to be deeper on My World 2.0 compared to his initial EP. The singer spoke about his vocal issues in April 2010, saying, "It cracks. Like every teenage boy, I'm dealing with it and I have the best vocal coach in the world... Some of the notes I hit on "Baby" I can't hit any more. We have to lower the key when I sing live." On September 23, 2010, Bieber made an appearance in the season premiere of the CBS American crime drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. As a serial bomber and a "troubled teen who is faced with a difficult decision regarding his only brother," he portrayed the role. A later episode of the show, airing on February 17, 2011, featured Bieber's character's death. In a medley of his songs "U Smile," "Baby," and "Somebody to Love," which he performed at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards on September 12, 2010, Bieber also briefly played the drums. My Worlds Acoustic was the name of Bieber's next acoustic album, which he revealed in October 2010. With the release of his new single "Pray" on November 26, 2010, it included acoustic renditions of songs from his earlier albums. Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story, an autobiography with text written by Bieber and images taken by Robert Caplin, was published in October 2010 and was Bieber's debut book.

The director of Step Up 3D, Jon M. Chu, also starred in Justin Bieber's 2011 concert film, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which was released on February 11, 2011. On its opening day, it was the most successful film at the box office, earning an estimated $12.4 million from 3,105 theaters. Weekend box office take was $30.3 million, second only to the romantic comedy Just Go with It's $31 million. According to reports, Never Say Never did better than expected at the box office, almost matching the record-breaking opening for a music documentary—the 2008 3-D concert film Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert—which Miley Cyrus holds—a record of $31.1 million. With a total of $99,034,125, Never Say Never surpassed all other concert or performance films in terms of global box office earnings. In support of the film, he put out a second remix album called Never Say Never - The Remixes on February 14, 2011. It comprises reworked versions of songs from his first album and has guest appearances from artists including Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, and Chris Brown. In the 2011 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, which took place on February 18, 2011, Bieber was a participant and was awarded MVP after racking up eight points (3-11 FG), two rebounds, and four assists. His first country music win was for Collaborative Video of the Year at the 2011 CMT Music Awards, which he received in June for the song "That Should Be Me" from the album Never Say Never, which included Rascal Flatts. Bieber was included in Time magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential persons in the world. According to Forbes, Bieber was the second most paid celebrity under the age of 30 in June 2011. In a single year, he earned $53 million, making him the youngest celebrity and one of seven singers to do so. Along the same month, he released a track titled "Next to You" with American artist Chris Brown. June 6 saw the leak of the song's incomplete video, while June 17 saw the release of the official video.

Among US Billboard's holiday music charts, "Mistletoe" (the album's lead song) reached number one. The album's second single, "All I Want for Christmas Is You (SuperFestive!)" by Justin Bieber, is a cover of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey; the original version features Carey's vocals. Among Billboard's finest holiday albums and songs of all time, the album and its singles were recognized.

From 2012 to 2014, Believe made appearances through journals and other mediums.

Bieber started working on Believe, his third studio album, at the end of 2011. "Boyfriend" was the name of the debut song, which Bieber revealed the next week during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show; it was released on March 26, 2012. With 521,000 digital units sold in its initial week, the song became the second most successful debut in Billboard Hot 100 history, debuting at number two. The digital download of the music was exclusively accessible through the iTunes shop, which Bill Werde of Billboard said was "limiting the buying option for those [who] do not frequent the Apple retail store," which is why it didn't launch at number one. After debuting at number one and remaining there for one week, "Boyfriend" became Justin Bieber's first single to ever achieve the top spot on the Canadian Hot 100. The American hip-hop group Far East Movement included Bieber on the track "Live My Life" from their 2012 album Dirty Bass, which was released in February. This song had its internet debut five days before it was supposed to be released, and it reached a peak of thirty on the Billboard Hot 100. On May 29, 2012, the album's lead track "Die in Your Arms" was released to the public. The following week, "All Around the World" (with American rapper Ludacris) was released as a promotional single. With Big Sean as the featured artist, "As Long as You Love Me" became Believe's second single upon its June 11, 2012, release. Its highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 was number six.

Island Records released Believe, his third studio album, on June 19, 2012. With this album, he took a musical step away from his earlier teen pop work and included dance-pop and R&B elements. Bieber enlisted the help of many urban producers, including Darkchild, Hit-Boy, Diplo, and Max Martin, among others, in an effort to craft a more "mature" sound for the album. The album was hailed by Entertainment Weekly as a "reinvention and a reintroduction" and lauded Bieber's stylistic change. While praising the album's "intense" rhythms and deeper voice, Rolling Stone parodied one of his expressions for sexual maturity ("If you spread your wings, you can fly away with me"). Believe became his fourth album to debut atop the Billboard 200. The album debuted at number one on the Canadian Albums Chart with 57,000 copies sold in its first week. The single "Beautiful" from Carly Rae Jepsen's 2012 album Kiss, which was released in September, included Bieber. "Beauty and a Beat" (with Nicki Minaj) was Believe's third single, and it was released in October 2012. With 10.6 million views in its first 24 hours of publication, the music video smashed the record for most video views in a single day.

Starting in Glendale, Arizona in September 2012, the Believe Tour marketed the record even further. Bieber made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on December 14, 2012, to promote the debut of his Believe Acoustic acoustic album. The album was released on January 29, 2013. It became Bieber's first number-one album in the United States before he turned nineteen, when the album debuted atop the Billboard 200.

Justin Bieber made a triumphant comeback to Saturday Night Live on February 9, 2013, in dual roles as host and musical guest. Critics and cast members were critical of his performance. Bill Hader remarked that he did not like being around Bieber and his entourage, while Kate McKinnon said that Bieber did not feel comfortable with his hosting responsibilities. Among the eight hosts Hader worked with on the show, Hader said that Bieber was the only one who lived up to his billing.

After Bieber complained of breathing issues during his performance at London's O2 Arena on March 7, 2013, he fell backstage and was transported to the hospital. Due to poor ticket sales, Bieber decided not to go forward with his second Lisbon, Portugal concert at the Pavilhão Atlântico on March 12. The March 11th performance did, in fact, take place at the same location. Around the middle of August 2013, Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson's unreleased duet "Slave to the Rhythm" made its way online in a remixed form. The Michael Jackson Estate has tried to get the song removed from as many websites and YouTube channels as possible after receiving criticism over this remix and stating that it had not approved the publication of the audio. A further leak was of a Lil Twist single called "Twerk" that included Bieber and Miley Cyrus. Justin Bieber had a guest appearance on two songs published in September: "Lolly" by Maejor Ali, which features rapper Juicy J, and "Melodies" by American singer Madison Beer, which features Bieber in a music video from the same month.

In May 2012, Justin Bieber began filming Believe, and the film was finally released on December 25, 2013. In the ten weeks leading up to the premiere of the film, Bieber stated on October 3, 2013, that he will release a new song every Monday. Returning to the helm is Jon M. Chu, the man responsible for Bieber's debut feature film, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. On October 7, the debut single "Heartbreaker" by Music Mondays was released. Released on October 14, "All That Matters" was the second single. "Hold Tight" followed on October 21, "Recovery" on October 28, "Bad Day" on November 4, and "All Bad" on November 11. Released on November 18 came the seventh track, "PYD" (with R. Kelly), which was followed by "Roller Coaster" on November 25 and "Change Me" on December 2. "Confident" (featuring Chance the Rapper) was the last single to be released on December 9, 2013. A music video for "All That Matters" and a trailer for Believe were also revealed on the same day that all ten tracks would be included on the compilation album Journals. The album would also contain five more unreleased songs. For a short while beginning on December 23, 2013, and ending on January 9, 2014, Journals could be purchased on iTunes. "One Life," "Backpack" (with Lil Wayne), "What's Hatnin'" (featuring Future), "Swap It Out," and "Memphis" (featuring Big Sean and Diplo) are the names of the five new added tracks. In November 2014, Bieber dropped a single called "Home to Mama" that featured Cody Simpson. In the same month, Bieber was named first on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list, which includes the highest-earning celebs under the age of 30 for that particular year.

As a result of the dissolution of The Island Def Jam Music Group, a branch of Universal Music, in April 2014, Bieber was one of several artists moved to Def Jam Recordings, another division of Universal Music, and Bieber was therefore no longer bound to Island Records.

The lead single from Justin Bieber's fourth studio album, Purpose, "What Do You Mean?" was released on August 28, 2015. This tune combines elements of acoustic R&B, electronic dance music, and teen pop. It was Bieber's first number one hit in the United States when it debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100. His record-breaking debut at number one on the Hot 100 as the youngest solo male artist is now officially in the Guinness Book of World Records. Not only that, but it reached the #1 place on US iTunes in less than 5 minutes, breaking the record for the fastest song to do so. After spending eight weeks in a row at number two, "Sorry" finally broke through to the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending January 23, 2016, becoming Justin Bieber's second number one song. With the US number one peak of "Love Yourself"—the third single from Purpose—Bieber became the first male artist in over a decade to achieve this feat; the last male artist to do so was Justin Timberlake in 2006–2007 with his second studio album, FutureSex/LoveSounds. He also made history by being the first solo artist since the Beatles in 1964 to have three singles that peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. In 2016, Bieber became just the third artist in history to have two songs appear at the top two spots on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 list—the other two being the Beatles in 1964 and Usher in 2004—as "Love Yourself" topped the chart and "Sorry" was at number two. He appeared on the single "Juke Jam" from Chance the Rapper's third mixtape Coloring Book, which came out on May 13, 2016, and featured Towkio. A new track named "Cold Water" was released by Bieber, Major Lazer, and Danish singer MØ on July 22, 2016. Its number two Billboard Hot 100 debut placed it second, making Bieber the artist with more number two debuts in the US at the time, surpassing Mariah Carey's record. The August 2016 single "Let Me Love You" by French DJ DJ Snake included Bieber. The Billboard Hot 100 charted the song at #4. American rapper Post Malone included Bieber on his 2016 debut album, Stoney, which featured the tune "Deja Vu" as its fourth single in September. Later that year (2016), Bieber made an appearance in the documentary Bodyguards: Secret Lives from the Watchtower. A remix of "Despacito" starring Justin Bieber was released on April 17, 2017, by Puerto Rican musicians Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. It was Bieber's debut Spanish-language single. The remix became an international phenomenon, topping charts all over the globe. This song became the second English/Spanish single to top the Billboard Hot 100, following "Macarena" (1996), when it reached number one in the United States. As far as the Billboard Hot 100 is concerned, it was tied for the record for most weeks at the top at the time. Breaking the previous record for most weeks at number one on the Digital Songs Sales list, the song lasted 56 weeks at the top of Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart. With 23.3 million views, the remix has more views than any other song on the crowdsourced media knowledge base Genius. Bieber won his first Latin Grammy for the song. "Despacito" is now topping two Billboard charts: one for Greatest of All Time Hot Latin Songs and another for Greatest of All Time Songs of the Summer. Both charts were last updated in September 2021.

Artists such as Bieber, Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne, and Quavo all contributed vocals to the April 28, 2017 song "I'm the One" by DJ Khaled. The song became Bieber's second number-one debut and fourth single to reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100 upon its premiere. Bieber became the first artist in history to record fresh No. 1s in back-to-back weeks when his song "Despacito" topped the US charts one week later. It marked his fifth number-one single. Not only that, "I'm the One" topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts on Billboard. French DJ David Guetta dropped his single "2U" featuring Justin Bieber on June 9, 2017. A group of Victoria's Secret models lip sync to the song "2U" in its official music video. Bieber announced the cancellation of the Purpose World Tour dates on July 24, 2017, citing "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason. With 2.8 million attendees across 162 performances and a total gross of $257 million, the tour was among the highest-grossing music tours of 2016 and 2017, according to Pollstar.

It was with American record producer and composer BloodPop that Bieber dropped the track "Friends" on August 17, 2017. His songwriting collaborators on "Sorry" (2015) included Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter. Nominated for three awards at the 60th Annual Grammys, "Despacito" was up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The nominated song was not performed by Bieber during the program because he refused to attend, stating that he would not make any appearances at award shows until he finished recording his next album. Bieber made an appearance at the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game for the second year in a row in 2018. While "No Brainer" brought Bieber and DJ Khaled back together in July 2018, it also included Chance the Rapper and Quavo once again. Not only did the song top Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart, but also reached number five on the Hot 100. The music video that went along with it also included him.

The 2019 Coachella music festival was Bieber's first live appearance in two years, and on April 21, 2019, he surprised fans with a performance, hinting at a new album and his comeback to the music industry. "I Don't Care" is the lead song from British musician Ed Sheeran's No.6 Collaborations Project, which was released on May 10, 2019, and it features Justin Bieber. Sheeran had worked with Bieber before, penning the lyrics to "Love Yourself" (2015) and "Cold Water" (2016) alongside Major Lazer. With 26 country top ten finishes and a US number two, "I Don't Care" became a global phenomenon. An 11 July remix of Billie Eilish's breakout track "Bad Guy" included Bieber. With the release of "10,000 Hours" on October 4, 2019, Bieber and Dan + Shay, a country music duet, achieved a high position of number four on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song lasted 21 weeks atop Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and became the highest-charting non-holiday country single in the history of the Billboard Streaming Songs chart. For this reason, Bieber made history by being the first artist to ever top seven separate charts: Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Hot Latin Songs, Hot R&B Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and Hot Rap Songs. At the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, it was Bieber's second Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. With his 200 weeks in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, Bieber became the youngest male solo artist to do it on October 14, 2019.

From 2020 to the present: Transitions and Fairness

In 2020, Bieber will release his fifth studio album and begin his fourth concert tour, as revealed on December 24, 2019. On January 3, 2020, the album's lead song "Yummy" was released. When it first came out, it peaked at #2 on Billboard's Hot 100. The 10-part Justin Bieber: Seasons docuseries, which Bieber announced on December 31, 2019, would focus on many topics like his life after a musical break, marriage, getting ready to release new songs, and his fight with Lyme illness. Season one premiered on January 27, 2020, and subsequent episodes aired every Monday and Wednesday. With 32.65 million views in its first week, the documentary series shattered the record for most-viewed launch of any YouTube Original. Justin Bieber announced that his fifth studio album, Changes, will be released on February 14, 2020, during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on January 28, 2020. "Get Me" (with Kehlani) was his album's promotional song, which he also released on the same day. "Intentions" (featuring Quavo) was the second single to be released by Bieber from the album on February 7, 2020. On Billboard Hot 100, the song reached its highest position at number five. With the release of Changes on February 14, Bieber became the youngest solo artist in US history to have seven number-one albums. The album debuted at number one on both the UK and US Billboard 200 charts.

This was his sixth US number one single, and it debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. He has a guest appearance on Jaden's "Falling for You" (from CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3, Jaden's third studio album), which was released on August 28, 2020. 3. It was also the lead single off Bieber's forthcoming sixth studio album. On the Billboard Hot 100, it reached its highest position at #3. As the second single from his next album, "Lonely"—a duet with Benny Blanco—was released on October 15, 2020. In terms of Billboard Hot 100 peak positions, the single was number twelve. On November 6, 2020, 24kGoldn's track "Mood" was remixed and included Justin Bieber and J Balvin. The song "Monster" was released by Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber on November 20, 2020. It is off Mendes' fourth studio album, Wonder. The Billboard Hot 100 charted it at number eight at its peak.

The third song "Anyone" from Bieber's forthcoming studio album was released on January 1, 2021, and it reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100. It was not until February 14, 2021, that Bieber gave his first live performance of "Journals Live"—a collaboration with TikTok—from his 2013 album Journals. It was the most-viewed livestream of a single artist in the site's history and the first feature-length concert on the platform. The name Justice will be Bieber's sixth studio album, as he formally confirmed on February 26, 2021. Released as the fourth single from the album on March 5, 2021, "Hold On" reached number twenty on the Billboard Hot 100. When Justice and its fifth single "Peaches" were released on March 19, 2021, they were well-received by critics. The album became Bieber's eighth number-one project when it premiered at number one on the Billboard 200, while the song "Peaches" became his seventh number-one single when it debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Thus, Bieber achieved unprecedented success in the United States. The record for the youngest solo artist to have eight albums that reached number one in the US was held by Elvis Presley for 56 years, but Bieber broke it. His debut single and album both peaked at the top of the US charts at the same time, making him the first solo male artist to do so. When his first six studio albums debuted atop the Billboard 200, he made history as the first male performer to do so.

Freedom, Bieber's six-song EP with a gospel influence, was a surprise release on Easter 2021. Justice, Justin Bieber's first full-length album in nearly a decade, spent more than one week at the top of the chart on April 11, 2021, leading the Billboard 200 by fewer than 1,000 copies. The song "Let It Go" from DJ Khaled's twelfth studio album, Khaled Khaled, which features Bieber and 21 Savage, was released on May 10, 2021. He was featured in the music video that went along with it. Culture III, Migos' fourth studio album, included Bieber's "What You See" on June 11, 2021. In the fourth week of its release, it became his eighth US number-one single and eventually peaked at number one. In addition to becoming the youngest solo artist to have 100 songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100, "Stay" marked his 100th career entry on the list. At the same time, it made history in South Korea as the first song by a male foreign performer to reach a flawless all-kill. In 2022, the song "Stay" had the most number of global streams on Apple Music. As part of 1DayLA's COVID-19 service event, which took place on July 24, 2021, Bieber headlined the "Freedom Experience" concert at the SoFi Stadium.

As his debut afrobeats single, Bieber dropped a remix of "Essence" by Nigerian musician Wizkid on August 13, 2021. It sent the song up the Billboard Hot 100 chart to number nine. A week after that, he dropped "Don't Go," a joint effort with Skrillex and Don Toliver. At the 2021 Made in America Festival, which took place on September 4, 2021, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Bieber was the headliner. In order to prepare for his "New Year's Eve Live" powered by T-Mobile concert in 2020—his first performance in three years—Bieber launched a new documentary film called Justin Bieber: Our World on October 8, 2021. The track "Lonely Christmas" was released by Bryson Tiller on November 19, 2021. Bieber and his long-time partner Poo Bear were co-featured. The second song from American rapper Juice Wrld's second posthumous album, Fighting Demons, including a collaboration with Bieber titled "Wandered to LA" was released on December 3, 2021. At the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on December 5, Bieber was the featured artist. He was the featured performer at Capital FM's 2021 Jingle Bell Ball, which took place in London's The O2 on December 11, 2021. At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, Justice was nominated for eight awards in the same month.

Before Canadian singer The Weeknd surpassed Bieber's 94.68 million monthly listeners a year later, Bieber set the record for most Spotify listeners on January 1, 2022. He contributed a guest spot on the single "Sundown" from Alien, Beam's first studio album, which was released on February 4, 2022. Before the Super Bowl in Los Angeles on February 11, 2022, Bieber was the featured performer at the "Homecoming Weekend" party. A duet between Bieber and Nigerian artist Omah Lay, "Attention" came out on March 4, 2022. His 20th top-five single in his career, "Ghost" (the sixth single from Justice) reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 28, 2022. As a result of the song's success, Bieber became the first male solo artist in Billboard history to have ten number one hits on the Pop Songs list. Bieber appeared on Kehlani's March 30, 2022, song "Up at Night" off her third studio album, Blue Water Road. At the 2022 Coachella music festival, Bieber and Daniel Caesar surprised the crowd on April 15th with a performance. Justin Bieber's new single "Honest" (with Don Toliver) and music video for the song, directed by Cole Bennett, were both released on April 29, 2022. The battle royale video game Garena Free Fire has an exclusive track by Justin Bieber called "Beautiful Love" released on August 27, 2022.

The Hipgnosis Songs Fund, which was financed by Blackstone, purchased Bieber's song publishing rights and recording catalogue shares, which extended until the end of 2021, from him in January 2023. The deal was valued at over $200 million. At the same time, Bieber allegedly turned down an opportunity to headline Coachella 2023 in favor of working on his impending seventh studio album. Don Toliver's third studio album, Love Sick, featured Bieber and Future on the track "Private Landing" (released on February 24, 2023). At the Rolling Loud event in 2023, he surprised everyone by performing the song alongside Toliver. The Love Album: Off the Grid, American rapper Diddy's sixth studio album, included Bieber's guest appearance on the track "Moments" on September 15, 2023. He also dropped an acoustic cover of SZA's "Snooze" on the same day. He played the role of the latter's romantic interest in the music video's official release.

A work of art

The following artists have been named as musical influences by Bieber: Michael Jackson, Craig David, Boyz II Men, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Tupac, Usher, and Kanye West. Bieber stated in 2012, "music is music, and I'm definitely influenced by Michael Jackson and Boyz II Men and people who were Black artists—that's what I like." Timberlake was an influence on Believe, and Bieber tried to "create a new sound that people aren't really used to hearing... like when Timberlake did FutureSex/LoveSounds: It was a new sound... acoustic guitar over hard drums." Bieber proclaimed Chris Brown the "best entertainer of all time" in 2019.

Pop, R&B, and even dance-pop and electronic dance music (EDM) are just a few of the genres that Bieber uses in his songs. His compositions were "offering a gentle introduction to the mysteries and heartaches of adolescence: songs flushed with romance but notably free of sex itself," according to Rolling Stone's Jody Rosen in 2010. Early on in his career, he was known for music that was more in the "bubblegum-ish" and teen pop genres.

"I want to do it at my own pace. I don't want to start singing about things like sex, drugs and swearing. I'm into love, and maybe I'll get more into making love when I'm older. But I want to be someone who is respected by everybody." According to an interview Bieber gave to V magazine in January 2012, but since then, Bieber has gradually altered his artistry, working with Peter Gicas of E! Some have called "PYD" "sexed-up" online, while In Touch Weekly magazine has warned that his fans would feel uneasy listening to his collaboration with Maejor Ali and Juicy J on the song "Lolly" because to its explicit references to oral sex. While working with Skrillex on his 2015 electronic dance music (EDM) album Purpose, Bieber deftly navigated weighty topics like "life experiences" and "feel-good music" to convey his message.

As was shown during his debut performance of "Pray" at the 2010 American Music Awards, Bieber's voice cracked while singing with a boy soprano voice. "The biggest threat to his career" was how Sean Michaels of The Guardian put it back then--puberty. A reviewer named Jody Rosen praised Justin Bieber's "swing and rhythmic dexterity" and "nasal" voice on the singer's debut album. Jan Smith began teaching Bieber's voice in 2008.

With a range that begins at the baritone A2 and ends at the high tenor F5, Bieber has a tenor voice type and sings as an adult. The Daily Telegraph's Neil McCormick praised his "soft, supple and seductive singing" while reviewing his album Purpose. In her review of Justice, Bieber's 2021 album, Caroline Sullivan of The Guardian lauded his "affectedly breathy voice" and said, "the voice soon palls, but the songs are often interesting." Pitchfork noted, "Bieber is not a powerhouse vocalist, but he is a compelling one, casually dropping in a stray yodel here, a Mariah Carey-indebted set of runs there. His voice has a palatable smoothness; he's mastered push-and-pull dynamics, and he swings effortlessly from a placid chest voice to a zephyr of a falsetto."

* Accomplishments*

With over 150 million albums sold globally, Bieber is undeniably one of the most successful musicians of all time.

Back at the Avon Theater in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, where Bieber busked as a kid, Bieber was feted with a star in 2011. Stephen Harper, Canada's former prime minister, awarded Bieber with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal on November 23, 2012.. The Diamond Jubilee medal was presented to him along with sixty thousand other Canadians that year. As of its release in 2013, Bieber's single "Baby" has the most digital single certifications ever, earning him a Diamond honor from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The RIAA has awarded Bieber five Diamond distinctions. Among Bieber's many fan-voted accolades are two Grammys (from twenty-three nominations), one Latin Grammy, eight Junos, two Brit Awards, twenty-six Billboard Music Awards, twenty-two ASCAP Awards, and a slew of other honors, including twenty-three Teen Choice Awards (more than any male artist), eight iHeartRadio Music Awards, six MTV Video Music Awards, and twenty-three American Music Awards. Also, out of a record-breaking 52 nominations, he has won 22 MTV Europe Music Awards, more than any other artist.

Despite being just 19 years old, Bieber beat out industry heavyweights like Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift to win the Milestone Award at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards for his groundbreaking creative work and impact on the music industry. Numerous awards have been bestowed upon all of Bieber's studio releases, which have all been certified Platinum or higher by the RIAA. Holding the record held by Elvis Presley since 1965, he becomes the youngest solo artist to have eight albums that reach number one in the US at the age of 27. With fifteen tracks that have surpassed one billion streams, Bieber becomes Spotify's all-time leader in that category.

Bieber accomplished remarkable things on a worldwide scale after the release of Purpose, his fourth studio album. He replaced his own song at the top of the UK Singles Chart, making history as the first artist to do it since Elvis Presley in 2005. He has never before had three songs in the top three on the UK Singles Chart, and he is the first artist to do so. This was accomplished when his songs "Love Yourself," "Sorry," and "What Do You Mean?" concurrently occupied the top three spots on the charts. Justin Bieber became the first male artist since Justin Timberlake in 2007 to have three number-ones from an album when the singles also reached at number one in the US. Not only that, but he broke new ground as a solo artist, becoming the first solo artist since the Beatles in 1964 to have three singles that peaked at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. After the Beatles in 1964 and Usher in 2004, Bieber became the third artist in history to hold the top-two places on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 with "Love Yourself" topping the chart and "Sorry" placing second. This occurred in 2016. With the release of Purpose in 2017, Bieber set eight new Guinness World Records, bringing his total number of records set by the artist to 33 as of 2021. Among these milestones were the following: most-streamed-album on Spotify in a single week, most-streamed-track on the US Billboard Hot 100 at the same time, and most-new entries on the US Billboard Hot 100 by a solo artist at the same time.

Bieber has had success on many Billboard charts, both domestically and internationally. "Stay" is the most recent of Bieber's eight songs to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. He has never before achieved the feat of having new singles debut atop the Hot 100 charts in back-to-back weeks. At the age of twenty-one, he made history as the youngest male soloist to ever debut at number one in the United States. Not only that, he has spent a total of 200 weeks in the Hot 100's top ten, making him the youngest male soloist to do so at the age of 25. His debut single and album both peaked at the top of the US charts at the same time, making him the first male singer to do so. Additionally, he has never ever spent 59 weeks in a row in the Hot 100's top ten as a male soloist. To date, no artist has ever achieved the feat of topping seven separate Billboard charts: the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Hot Latin Songs, Hot R&B Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and Hot Rap Songs. Bieber himself is the first to do it. According to Billboard, his smash hit "Despacito" is the best Latin song of all time, and it owns the record for most weeks at number one (56). On the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 Chart, he holds the record for most number-one debuts (10), most number-one songs (13), and overall weeks at number-one (56). With a total of 163 weeks at the top of the Billboard Social 50 Chart, Bieber has more weeks than any single artist. According to Billboard's Decade-End Social 50 Chart, he was the most popular musician of the 2010s. The "Greatest Pop Star of 2016" award went to Bieber from Billboard. Not only that, he ranked seventh on Billboard's Decade-End Top Artists Chart for the 2010s and was named 2016's Year-End Top Male Artist by the publication. The magazine also placed him at number 38 on its Greatest of All Time Hot 100 Artists Chart and number 55 on its Greatest of All Time Artists List.

Over the past decade, Bieber has been hailed by modern media as the "Prince of Pop" and the "King of Teen Pop" for his innovative approach to pop popularity. He has been around for a long time, as evidenced by his several MTV Awards, including Best New Artist in 2010 and Artist of the Year in 2021. His many accolades include being named "one of the most captivating artists of the century," "the biggest popstar of our age," and "one of the world's most successful artists of all time" by Rolling Stone India. One common way to describe Bieber is as an icon in the pop culture canon. Variety described Justin Bieber as "a once-in-a-generation superstar who charted a swift and stunning rise from precocious YouTube talent to global phenomenon." In a 2011 article comparing the cultural significance of Bieber to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Orlando Sentinel stated, "Out of all the cultural icons who influence and inspire today's society, Justin Bieber is without a doubt one of the most prominent." Bieber is widely recognized as a key figure in the intersection of music and social media, which gained prominence in the late 2000s.

Tom Fazakerley expresses his thoughts in an article published by The Guardian titled "How Justin Bieber revolutionised careers in the music industry":

The interaction between consumers, companies, and artists has been revolutionized by social media. Sites like YouTube and MySpace have made it easy for up-and-coming musicians to reach a huge audience with just a few clicks. Because of this, more people are able to enter the music industry, and the way that aspiring musicians may advance in their careers has changed. You may now achieve true stardom by juggling the roles of musician, producer, and promoter—just like Justin Bieber.

After the release of his singles "One Time" and "One Less Lonely Girl" in 2009, Bieber became an instant sensation at the age of fifteen. He went on to appear on several television shows, including Good Morning America, The Wendy Williams Show, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "Beliebers" were his devoted followers all over the world, and his meteoric rise to fame was dubbed "Bieber Fever"; cities like Paris, Barcelona, and Liverpool were places where fan frenzies occurred. In 2020, it came to light that Billie Eilish's mother Maggie Baird was about to have her taken to treatment for her "obsession" with Justin Bieber. Many compared Bieber's fervent fanbase to the "Beatlemania" of the '60s, and his distinctive winged hairdo at the time was also compared to the mop top of the Beatles. Teenage girls' obsession with Bieber has been compared to that of Elvis Presley in the 1950s and Frank Sinatra in the 1940s.

As he entered adulthood, Bieber continued to enjoy immense global success and garner further praise for his artistic abilities. Regarding Bieber's meteoric rise to fame from his adolescent years into his early adulthood, Variety dubbed him a "Internet icon" and argued that he may be the first major pop singer to grow up in the age of social media. "One of the most successful pop singers of recent years" is how The Conversation's Jo Adetunji described Bieber. According to Adetunji, Bieber's 2015 electronic dance music (EDM) album Purpose went "beyond the moment and trends" of the time, and the writer stated that Bieber deserves significant artistic recognition for his work. Adetunji saw parallels between the album and Ray of Light (1998) by Madonna, Jagged Little Pill (1995) by Alanis Morissette, and FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006) by Justin Timberlake. According to Hugh McIntyre of Forbes, who wrote an article about Bieber, "You may love him, you may hate him, but no matter how you feel about him, nobody can argue that Justin Bieber hasn't conquered the pop world... The Grammy winner can turn essentially any track into a smash, and nobody can sell a single like he can these days." McIntyre went on to call Bieber "an unstoppable force in music" and praised him for his success in different genres such as R&B, electronic dance, hip hop, and Latin.

In addition to Shawn Mendes, Why Don't We, Johnny Orlando, and Niall Horan, Justin Bieber has had an influence on many other musicians. Upon discovering Bieber on YouTube, singers Dua Lipa and Charlie Puth were encouraged to accomplish the same, according to them.

Public perception

"I had the chance to ramp up my success, where this has happened to Bieber abruptly," Usher said, reflecting on how he and Bieber were both signed at the same age. Consequently, Bieber's entourage of grownups, including Braun, Usher, and Bieber's bodyguard, were always there to guide him as he navigated the challenges of celebrity and the public eye when he was younger. Usher enlisted Ryan Good, a former assistant of his, to serve as Bieber's road manager and stylist upon signing the singer. Known as Bieber's "swagger coach" at one point, Good designed the singer's signature "streetwise look"—a combination of baseball caps, hoodies, dog chains, and eye-catching shoes. According to Amy Kaufman of The Los Angeles Times, Bieber seems to be taking style cues from his favorite rappers, despite coming from a middle-class suburban upbringing in Stratford, Ontario. In 2013, Bieber admitted to being "very influenced by Black culture," but he denied identifying with the culture or trying to portray a specific race. It radiated "a lifestyle-like a suaveness or a swag" in his view. Some have called Bieber a "teen heartthrob" due to his frequent appearances in teenager publications like Tiger Beat. He faced a barrage of criticism in 2010 for seeming and talking much younger than his actual age, and in 2011 for his widely noticed androgynous looks, which even landed him on the cover of LOVE magazine's androgyny issue. In particular, his distinctive wing hairdo at the time attracted a lot of attention. Further targets of criticism include his adolescent pop songs, public persona (particularly his status as a female heartthrob), and the amount of attention he gets from the media. Bloggers and message board posters on the Internet, particularly those on YouTube and the message board 4chan, have taken aim at him. The Daily Telegraph's Nick Collins noted that "Bieber's character appears to strike a particularly sour note with his Internet critics" who have criticized his speaking style among other things.

The adolescent idol and seemingly perfect image that Bieber had in 2013 and 2014 took a major hit because of his roles in a number of scandals. He threw up onstage, urinated in a bucket, cursed at a photo of Bill Clinton, wore a gas mask in public, allegedly spat on fans (though this was later disproven), had an explicit photo with a stripper, and allegedly attacked his bodyguard and limo driver during this time. He also abandoned his pet monkey in Germany. According to Brad Bieber, Bieber's uncle, the singer's problematic conduct stems from his split from Selena Gomez. "Bad Boy" was the cover story and title of the March 2014 issue of Rolling Stone, which featured Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber changed his stage name to "Bizzle" the same year. Bieber frequently used thick golden chains, baseball hats, and a quiff throughout his "Bizzle" phase.

Justin Bieber's reputation took a turn for the better in his early twenties, after the success of his album Purpose. He sported bleached blonde hair and frequently sported flannel shirts, denim jackets, torn trousers, and rock-branded t-shirts, such as those of Kurt Cobain and Marilyn Manson. Additionally, he was seen many times wearing kilts, which were popular in the 90s. During this time, his style was like grunge in the '90s, according to Vogue. Justin Bieber's image kept evolving after his 2018 marriage. He married into a more mature fan base and adopted a more reserved speaking pattern as he moved away from the image of a youthful heartthrob. "Laugh at his past self" was Bieber's words when he spoke to Vogue in February 2019.

You may see Justin Bieber's early hairdo in wax at the New York, London, and Amsterdam Madame Tussauds museums. Opening in 2018 at the Stratford Perth Museum in Bieber's hometown of Stratford, Ontario, "Steps to Stardom" chronicles his early career and features artifacts from his childhood and ascent to worldwide fame. His personal correspondence, including a letter from Michelle Obama, his Stratford Warriors hockey jersey, microphones, his Grammy Award, and a professional drum set he had when he was a little boy are all on exhibit. Bieber went to the museum many times. After "Steps to Stardom" surpassed attendance records set by the museum's Anne Frank House exhibit in 2015, the board of directors decided to keep the show up for another year, extending its initial October 2018 closing date.

Justin Bieber was crowned number two on Forbes' list of the highest-paid celebrities under the age of 30, and he was selected to Time's 100 most influential people list before he had even begun his professional music career at the tender age of seventeen. For the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2017, he was once again included to Forbes' yearly list. Also in 2011, 2012, and 2013, he was named one of the top ten most powerful celebrities by Forbes.

Prior to the release of his debut album, My World, Bieber's early audience grew on YouTube. The New York Times' Jan Hoffman claims that Bieber's YouTube channel contributes to his popularity. To describe Bieber's legion of fans, "Beliebers" was one of the most popular terms of 2010, according to the Chicago Tribune. His films on YouTube have millions of views even before My World came out in November 2009. Braun saw the allure. The reason behind Bieber's increased home video production for YouTube was Braun's desire to "build him up more on YouTube first" before taking him to Atlanta. "I said: 'Justin, sing like there's no one in the room. But let's not use expensive cameras.' We'll give it to kids, let them do the work, so that they feel like it's theirs" , Braun told me. Even after creating a Twitter account, Bieber still posting videos to his original channel and frequently engages with his audience there. Bieber broke Lady Gaga's Twitter follower record in January 2013 and remained at the top for eleven months.

With more over 110.3 million followers as of 2024, Bieber ranks above all but three users on Twitter in terms of popularity among musicians. With more than 32 billion views, his YouTube channel has more views than any other individual's music channel on the internet. For six years running, he was YouTube's most subscribed solo artist with over 73 million subscribers. "Beauty and a Beat" is the most recent of Bieber's eleven music videos that have amassed over a billion views on YouTube, making him the second most popular artist of all time. With more than 24 million likes since its 2010 release, Justin Bieber's "Baby" music video is one of YouTube's most popular videos. At the time the feature debuted, Bieber was a hot issue on Twitter due to the amount of time his admirers spent talking about him. In 2010, he was even voted the top-trending star on Twitter.

Interests in the business world

Bieber inked an agreement with Proactiv in 2010. Together with Nicole by OPI, Bieber debuted a nail polish collection called "The One Less Lonely Girl Collection" that year; it was offered only in Walmart. In the first two months following its introduction, Bieber's nail polish collection sold one million bottles. The year 2012 saw Bieber join Derrick Rose and Venus Williams as Adidas endorsees. In early 2015, he was named Calvin Klein's new "face" and "body." According to Entertainment Tonight, Bieber utilized the nutritional supplement MYO-X before the photo session. Bieber collaborated with Kevin Harrington's new retail app, StarShop, in June 2015. Many believe that Bieber's tweets on other musicians, such Carly Rae Jepsen and Madison Beer, helped propel their careers to the next level.

Four perfumes have been released by Bieber. Experts in the fragrance business consider his 2011 debut scent, Someday, to have been a smashing success, selling over $3 million USD in less than three weeks at Macy's. Launching Girlfriend in June 2012, his second fragrance, followed closely on the heels of that 2011 bestseller. In 2020, it came to light that Bieber has a lakefront house in Ontario and a $26 million mansion in Beverly Hills, California. Supposedly, Bieber has a non-immigrant O-1 visa, which grants him employment status in the US, because of his "extraordinary ability or achievement" in the artistic realm. Speaking highly of Canada, Bieber has called it "the best country in the world" and compared its health care system—which is mostly supported by the government—to the United States, saying that he has no interest in becoming a citizen. But after his marriage to Hailey Baldwin, Bieber started the process of becoming a US citizen in September 2018, according to TMZ.

Ensure your health.

At different stages in his career, Bieber has battled mental health concerns, specifically anxiety and despair. He has been rather forthright about these matters in general. During his early career, the singer often used hallucinogenic mushrooms, recreational drugs like MDMA, and lean, as he discussed in his American YouTube docu-series Seasons (2020).

After receiving a Lyme disease diagnosis in January 2020, Bieber took to Instagram to communicate the news. Infectious mononucleosis, which impacted his neurological and general health, was another thing he disclosed.

Two days after starting his fourth concert tour, the Justice World Tour, in February 2022, Bieber tested positive for COVID-19. Bieber revealed in June of that year that he was paralyzed over half his face due to a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome type 2. Because of his illness, he had to postpone or reschedule shows, but he got back on stage in late July. The announcement that Bieber would be prioritizing his health led to the suspension of all remaining tour dates in September, only two days after the first Latin American show as part of the Rock in Rio event. In a post on social media, the artist stated : "After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me and I realized that I need to make my health the priority right now. So I'm going to take a break from touring for the time being. I'm going to be OK, but I need time to rest and get better."

After stating on Twitter that she and Bieber weren't married yet on September 14, 2018, Baldwin later removed the post. According to Bieber, he and Baldwin tied the knot on November 23, 2018. On September 30, 2019, Bieber and Baldwin were married in a formal ceremony in Bluffton, South Carolina. Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin welcomed their first child on May 9, 2024, as revealed by Bieber in an Instagram post. They were blessed with a son on August 23, 2024.

Beliefs in a higher power

That "He's the reason I'm here" is Bieber's way of expressing his devotion to God, who he claims to be a personal prayer partner with. A song video he did with Brandon Burke called "#iPledge" represented his religion; in it, he spoke of God's forgiveness. After Bieber had a born-again experience on January 9, 2014, Pentecostal pastor Carl Lentz of Hillsong Church in New York baptized him. According to him, Lentz is a trustworthy buddy. He joined the evangelical church Churchome in 2021 and publicized it. Several of Bieber's tattoos, such as the medium-sized cross on his chest and the tiny cross under his eye, have religious meaning. The "Son of God" lettering tattooed on Bieber's belly was also covered up with a big design that contains two angels, gothic arches, a skeleton, and a snake.

Statements of opinion

In 2011, Bieber stated in an interview with Rolling Stone, "I don't think you should have sex with anyone unless you love them." He went on to say that he does not "believe in abortion" and that it is "like killing a baby" when asked about sexual abstinence. In response to a question regarding the abortion case involving rape, he stated, "I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that." In 2022, when Roe v. Wade was overturned, Bieber and his wife voiced their disapproval. Bieber posted on Instagram, "For what it's worth, I think women should have the choice what to do with their own bodies." Regarding sexual orientation, he is quoted as saying, "everyone's own decision," and he has donated to the It Gets Better Project, a non-profit organization fighting to prevent LGBT youth suicide. One of Bieber's 2019 demands was that Trump "also let those kids out of cages" in reference to the family separation policy enacted by the American government.

The Commercial Felony Streaming Act (Bill S.978), which would have elevated illegal streaming from a misdemeanor to a felony, was opposed by several content providers in 2011, including Bieber. The bill's sponsor, U.S. The bill was reintroduced by Senator Thom Tillis as the Protecting Lawful Streaming Act and signed into law by then-President Donald Trump in December 2020 as part of the omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021. Senator Amy Klobuchar "needs to be locked up, put away in cuffs!" but it never passed.

One of Bieber's managers' younger brothers, Adam Braun, started the nonprofit Pencils of Promise, which Bieber helps fund. Bieber took over as manager of the organization's effort in Guatemala, where they construct schools for underprivileged children. Commercials featuring him promote the charity and its "Schools4All" initiative, which he supports as a celebrity advocate. He has pledged to pay a visit to the schools that have contributed the most money to the cause. He shows up at the charity's galas to raise money and gives a portion of his concert ticket sales, fragrance sales from his Someday line, and other merchandise sales to the cause. Bieber encouraged his followers to adopt strays from shelters in 2010 as part of PETA's effort to end animal cruelty. While appearing on Ellen DeGeneres's talk program, The Ellen DeGeneres program, in March 2011, Bieber gave a lock of hair to the host. More than $40,000 was raised for the animal rescue organization, The Gentle Barn, via the sale of his hair on eBay. In the aftermath of the March 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, Bieber gave the Japanese Red Cross the money he had made from his concerts in Japan in May 2011. Whitney Elementary School in Las Vegas received a $100,000 donation from Bieber in December 2011, which helped pupils from low-income households. The charitable organization Charity: Water, which Bieber supports, helps provide people in underdeveloped nations with access to safe drinking water. He began his push to encourage Twitter donations on his birthday in 2011 and again in 2012. According to HuffPost, an American news aggregation and blog, Bieber was awarded the most generous celebrity of 2011.

After earning $3 million through his online #GiveBackPhilippines initiative in 2013, Bieber traveled to the Philippines to aid the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. The Philippines' Walk of Fame honored him for his contributions to the nation. In addition, he gives to the Alzheimer's Association and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. After Hurricane Harvey devastated Texas in September 2017, Bieber gave $25,000 to the American Red Cross to aid the victims.

A 22-year-old fan named Julie Coker who is involved in mental health awareness received a $100,000 donation from Bieber on February 7, 2020. Coker said that her personal battles with mental illness inspired her to advocate for better mental health services. She expressed her appreciation for Bieber, "[Bieber] has a big following, so if he has a good message about mental health, hopefully everybody else .?.?. will want to start thinking about mental health in a different way."

To aid with the COVID-19 pandemic, Bieber gave a gift to the Beijing Chunmiao Children Aid Foundation in China in February 2020. "Stuck With U" was the first in a series of tracks arranged by Bieber's manager Scooter Braun to support the COVID-19 epidemic; it featured Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber and was released in May 2020. The First Responders Children's Foundation was endowed with all of the song's net revenues. This foundation provides grants and scholarships to children of those who served as first responders or health care professionals during the epidemic. The single has amassed over $3,500,000 by the month of August in 2021. With the help of Cash App, Bieber and Chance the Rapper will provide $250,000 to fans who are going through tough times due to the epidemic in September 2020.

By invitation from Scott Budnick, Bieber, Hailey, and pastor Judah Smith visited the California State Prison in Los Angeles County in March 2021. Bieber showed his support for Budnick's Anti-Recidivism Coalition during his meeting with convicts associated with The Urban Ministry Institute. During his visit, Bieber promised to supply transportation so that loved ones of prisoners who had been quarantined in California because to the COVID-19 outbreak may visit them. A "life-changing experience that I will never forget" was how Bieber characterized his visit to the penitentiary.

Problems and disputes in the legal field

Prior to his first arrest in 2014, Bieber had many brushes with the law on a global scale. These included 2012 accusations of careless driving in his neighborhood and 2013 vandalism charges in Brazil. Bieber was accused by a neighbor in Calabasas, California, of damaging his property to the tune of thousands of dollars on January 9, 2014, by throwing eggs at it. Bieber and fellow musician Khalil were taken into custody in Miami Beach, Florida on January 23, 2014, in connection with allegations of DUI, operating a motor vehicle with a license that had been extended beyond its six-month expiration date, and peacefully resisting arrest. Authorities claimed Bieber admitted to using prescription medicines, smoked marijuana, and drank wine. A $2,500 bail was posted to relieve him from these charges. Bieber was found to have THC (a primary ingredient in cannabis) and the anxiety medicine Xanax in his system when he was arrested, according to a toxicology report. Thinking back on it in January 2021, he called it "not [his] finest hour" and urged his supporters to "let the forgiveness of Jesus take over and watch your life blossom into all that God has designed you to be."

More than 270,000 individuals sent a deportation petition to the White House after Bieber's arrest for DUI. The Obama administration chose not to provide any significant response to the petition, even though it had enough signatures to warrant a response according to the stated White House rules. The chances of Bieber getting deported are exceedingly remote, according to immigration law expert Harlan York. The city said, "About a decade ago, the Supreme Court ruled that driving under the influence, typically, is not a basis to deport someone."

"Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber." Bieber's message in the guestbook at the Anne Frank House read, "In April 2013," and was posted on the museum's Facebook page. Following the post, Bieber received extensive criticism on social media for what was perceived as narcissism and insensitivity. The Anne Frank House spoke out against Bieber, saying, "He's 19. It's a crazy life he's living, he didn't mean bad ... He was very interested in the story of Anne Frank and stayed for over an hour. We hope that his visit will inspire his fans to learn more about her life and hopefully read the diary."

The term "nigger" was used several times in a June 2014 video that surfaced of a 15-year-old Bieber making a joke against Black people. Another video from that same month had a 15-year-old Bieber laughing and singing "One Less Lonely Girl," but with the primary line rewritten as "One less lonely nigger" with the addition that he would be "part of the KKK" if he killed one. On the same day that the second album came out, he issued an apology, saying, "Facing my mistakes from years ago has been one of the hardest things I've ever dealt with."

Bieber was issued a misdemeanor vandalism citation in California on July 9, 2014, for an incident that occurred in January when he threw eggs at the residence of his neighbor in Calabasas. He allegedly possessed video evidence of himself high-fiving buddies following the egging incident, which the police had previously stated they had. On July 9, the Los Angeles County Superior Court handed down a sentence of $80,900 in restitution, two years of probation, 12 weeks of anger management, and five days of community service. This was all part of a negotiated settlement, according to the district attorney. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. A permanent transfer to Beverly Hills, California, has been made by him since then.

By entering a guilty plea to two lesser charges—driving without due care and attention and resisting an officer without violence—on August 13, 2014, Bieber's January DUI case was resolved through a plea deal. He must complete a 12-hour anger management program and a program that educates people about the effects of drunk driving on victims as part of his punishment, which includes a $500 fine. His plea deal included a $50,000 donation to a local children's charity called Our Kids.

Near his hometown of Stratford, Ontario, Bieber was taken into custody and faced charges of assault and reckless driving following an August 29 collision between his all-terrain vehicle and a minivan. A member of the minivan's passenger stated he "engaged in a physical altercation" thereafter, according to the Ontario police. His attorney then explained his client's release by saying that "the unwelcome presence of paparazzi" was to blame. The assault allegation that was initially filed against him on January 29th, stemming from an altercation with a limo driver in December 2013, was later withdrawn on September 8th by the Toronto court. Regarding an alleged attack on a photojournalist on November 9, 2013, a court in Buenos Aires ordered him to appear in Argentina within 60 days to provide testimony in November 2014. In April 2015, two of his bodyguards were freed in Argentina after an arrest order was filed for him after he refused to comply.

Bieber was prohibited from performing in China by the Chinese authorities in July 2017. A Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture official was questioned by a Chinese Bieber fan who wanted to know why the singer was banned. It is not appropriate to bring in badly behaved entertainers, according to the Bureau's statement, which explains that "Justin Bieber is a gifted singer, but he is also a controversial young foreign singer." In 2021, Chinese streaming sites Youku, iQIYI, and Tencent Video removed Bieber's scenes in Friends: The Reunion where he wore Ross Geller's iconic "Spudnik" costume.

A woman going under the Twitter handle "Danielle" accused Bieber of sexual assault in June 2020. She stated that Bieber and Selena Gomez had participated in non-consensual sexual activity in a Four Seasons hotel in Austin, Texas in March 2014. Claiming that sexual assault "is something I don't take lightly" and presenting proof that he was not there at the Four Seasons during the alleged event, Bieber refuted all claims in a series of tweets.
